Monsoon Alert: City Braces for Heavy Rain

Meteorologists have issued an orange alert, warning of heavy rainfall up to 100 mm on Tuesday and Wednesday. This alert signifies a need for residents to stay prepared for significant precipitation. The city experienced 22.6 mm of rain on Monday, but despite this, it is facing a 33.9% rain deficit for the current season. Officials attribute this shortfall to the monsoon system's late arrival in July.

While the El Nino system is developing, its impact on the city's weather is not expected until later in the monsoon season, specifically August and September. This period of heavy rain has led to a noticeable drop in temperature, with the maximum temperature reaching 29.4°C on Monday, the lowest recorded since May 30th, and four degrees below normal. The rainfall also caused considerable traffic disruptions across various parts of the city, particularly during school closing hours. Incidents such as a significant traffic jam near Sector 32 and 33 further exacerbated the situation, especially with the closure of nearby schools.
