10 Mar
Summary
- Six chinkara deer remain found near Army firing range.
- Forest and police teams are investigating the suspected poaching.
- Post-mortem will reveal if animals were hunted or died naturally.

A concerning discovery was made on Monday near the Army's Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer district, where the remains of approximately six chinkara deer were found. This incident, occurring near Loharki village under the Ramdevra police station, has raised suspicions of illegal hunting of the Schedule I wildlife species.
Forest and police officials, including those from the Pokhran Forest Department and Ramdevra police station, visited the site. They collected the remains, some of which were reportedly found on the ground and others hanging from trees, for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death and whether the animals were poached will be determined after the examination.
Wildlife enthusiasts alerted authorities after goat herders noticed the scene. They have expressed concern over repeated poaching incidents in the area and are urging for strict action. The Forest Department has obtained permission from the Army to investigate within the restricted field firing range, a location off-limits to the public, making the discovery particularly serious.
