Chhatbir Zoo, also known as Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park, reported a substantial increase in visitor numbers throughout 2025, drawing more than 5 lakh individuals. This surge is attributed to ongoing efforts by the forests and wildlife preservation department, aimed at revitalizing public engagement with the park.
A significant portion of the visitors, exceeding 62,000, comprised students from government schools across Punjab. Additionally, over 18,000 students from private primary schools and more than 16,000 from private high schools also visited, underscoring a rising interest in wildlife education among the youth.
The zoo has enhanced its facilities with a new critical care unit for carnivores and a 260 kV solar power plant to promote sustainability. These developments, alongside attractions like the walk-in aviary and dinosaur park, contribute to the zoo's role in wildlife conservation and education.
