12-Year-Old Ocean Warrior Cleans Seas!

Thaaragai Aarathana, a 12-year-old from Chennai, has dedicated herself to ocean conservation through remarkable underwater efforts. She has completed more than 100 scuba dives, successfully removing over 7,000 kilograms of plastic waste and ghost nets from marine environments. Her father, an experienced scuba instructor, fostered her early love for the water, leading her to discover her mission to protect marine life.

Her advocacy includes a notable underwater Bharatanatyam performance in December 2025, aiming to raise awareness about plastic pollution. In 2024, she completed an 11.5-hour swim across the Palk Strait from Sri Lanka to India. Thaaragai has also shared her message on environmental responsibility in over 70 schools and colleges, inspiring thousands to take action against pollution.
