The Striped Tiger butterfly has officially been designated as the state butterfly of Chandigarh. This significant decision was made during a State Board of Wildlife (SBWL) meeting on Monday, chaired by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.
The selection process, initiated last year by the forest and wildlife department, involved public voting among four potential candidates, including the Striped Tiger, Blue Tiger, Plain Tiger, and Jezebel.
The Striped Tiger was lauded for its elegant black and white stripes, symbolizing resilience and the city's natural heritage. The meeting also addressed the eco-sensitive zone around Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary and emphasized regular wildlife monitoring.
