The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) has significantly ramped up its efforts to combat littering, issuing 16 fines to residents over the last seven days for violating solid waste management norms in public areas. Enforcement teams employed a unique strategy, meticulously tracing discarded waste to identify and penalize offenders through clues like slips and personal documents found within the garbage.
This intensified drive, initiated under the directives of MC commissioner Amit Kumar, targeted various sectors across the city, including residential areas and commercial spaces. Kumar emphasized that maintaining the city's cleanliness is a shared responsibility and declared a zero-tolerance policy for littering and illegal dumping, assuring continued strict enforcement under municipal solid waste rules.
