Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited and founder of Vantara, has launched Champions of Care, a significant initiative dedicated to supporting animal welfare across India. This program brings together more than 50 organizations with the ambitious goal of assisting around two million community animals each year.
The initiative focuses on providing long-term support to local animal rescue efforts. This includes essential resources such as medical equipment, mobile rescue units, and staff training for organizations working with diverse animal populations. Assistance will also extend to veterinary hospitals and feeding programs.
Champions of Care will also fund crucial infrastructure upgrades for participating organizations. These enhancements include solar power systems, rainwater harvesting facilities, and designated quarantine areas, all designed to bolster the daily operations of animal welfare groups and improve the care provided to animals in need.
SP Gupta, a member of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), noted Ambani's commitment to understanding the needs of rescuers directly. The network is designed for expansion, with plans to onboard more animal welfare partners in the future, signifying a growing commitment to compassionate animal care in India.
