Beach Closures Due to Home Collapse Risk
9 Apr
Summary
- Beaches closed due to risk of oceanfront home collapse.
- Visitors urged caution on east-facing beaches through April 11.
- Coastal erosion poses serious threat to structures and visitors.

Several beaches within Cape Hatteras National Seashore have been closed due to the significant risk of collapse posed by threatened oceanfront homes in Buxton and Rodanthe. The closures are a precautionary measure to ensure visitor safety.
Officials have issued a warning for visitors to be particularly cautious on east-facing beaches through Saturday, April 11. This advisory is in response to escalating coastal erosion and its direct impact on nearby residential structures. The entire beach area in front of Buxton village is now inaccessible.
The proximity of these unstable structures to seashore lands presents a clear danger to individuals on the beach or in the water. A section of beach extending from southern Buxton to north of off-road vehicle ramp 43 has also been closed.
