Bug hotels resembling local landmarks have been installed at Burley Park Station in Leeds. This initiative by Cardigan Community Centre and The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) charity features four models.
These insect hotels provide crucial habitats for small creatures to shelter and hibernate. The designs are inspired by well-known local sites such as the Hyde Park Picture House, Cardigan Centre, Headingley Bear Pit, and the Burley Park bandstand.
Constructed from recycled pallets, the bug hotels are intended to be eye-catching and encourage conversations about conservation. Col Powell from TCV Hollybush expressed hope that the memorable designs would inspire people positively towards environmental care.
TCV's broader mission involves connecting people with nature and maintaining local green spaces. Powell noted that adopting stations to improve their aesthetics is a growing trend in various communities, making these areas more welcoming.
