Bradford Greenbelt Faces Housing Threat
4 Feb
Summary
- Up to 300 homes proposed near Chellow Dene Reservoir.
- Over 800 people signed a petition against the development.
- A third of new homes will be designated affordable housing.

Plans have been revealed for a new housing development of up to 300 homes on agricultural land near Bradford's Chellow Dene Reservoir. Keepmoat Homes is behind the proposal, aiming to address Bradford's housing needs by creating a sustainable neighbourhood. The development would span 12 hectares off Allerton Road and aims for sensitive integration with the local environment, including a buffer zone for ancient woodland.
Despite the developer's assurances, the scheme has met strong resistance from the local community. A petition organised by Friends of Chellow Dene has gathered over 800 signatures, with campaigners highlighting the area's ecological value and its role as a vital green space. They argue that the development threatens wildlife habitats and irreversibly impacts irreplaceable greenbelt land.
A public consultation is underway, allowing residents to comment on the plans via a website until February 12th. However, these comments will not be considered formal objections to any future planning application. The developer asserts the project will provide a much-needed development-free buffer to protect the setting of nearby ancient woodland.
