Scientists from Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, recently conducted a routine inspection of the sacred Bodhi tree located on the Mahabodhi Mahavihara campus in Bodh Gaya. The assessment, carried out on Monday, confirmed that the tree is in excellent health.
During their inspection, FRI scientists Santan Barthwal and Shailesh Pandey found no signs of infection or disease on the tree's leaves, indicating no major health concerns. As part of routine preventive care, they recommended minor maintenance measures.
These recommendations include pruning dead branches and applying an organic insecticide spray to ensure the tree's continued well-being. The Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) collaborates with FRI Dehradun for the tree's regular monitoring and conservation.
The Bodhi tree is deeply significant for Buddhists globally, as it is believed to be the site where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment over 2,600 years ago. The Mahavihara campus anticipates a large number of devotees for the annual World Peace Puja ceremonies under the tree this winter.
