- Project protects an aquifer recharge zone supplying drinking water.
Billie Eilish's 'HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: The Tour' has successfully directed over $20,000 towards a significant ecological restoration project in Austin, Texas. This funding, generated through the artist's Changemaker Ticket Program, has established a 6,000-square-foot native tree grove.
The initiative, a partnership with REVERB and Zilker 351, focused on restoring native woodland in an area impacted by invasive vegetation and stormwater runoff. The grove now features 140 established native trees, including Eastern Redbuds and oaks, demonstrating an impressive 85% survival rate.
This vital project is strategically located within an aquifer recharge zone, safeguarding the drinking water supply for approximately 600,000 people. Natural engineering elements like soil berms and vegetated swales manage stormwater, filtering pollutants before water reaches Barton Creek and Lady Bird Lake.
The restored canopy is expected to significantly lower local ground temperatures through transpiration and shade, contributing to a healthier urban environment. The grove was named in honor of Billie Eilish for her substantial involvement in this impactful conservation effort.
