Rajgir Zoo Safari and Bihar Veterinary College (BVC) have formalized a significant collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to bolster wildlife conservation, veterinary education, and scientific research within Bihar. The agreement was officially signed on Wednesday, marking a new era of cooperation.
The MoU prioritizes joint research into wildlife animal health and management. It also establishes structured internship programs for BVC veterinary students at the Rajgir Zoo Safari, offering them practical experience. Both institutions commit to sharing essential resources like equipment, data, and laboratory facilities to advance these critical efforts.
Veterinary students will gain hands-on training in treating, rescuing, and handling various animals. BVC will provide technical guidance to upgrade the zoo's veterinary hospital and pathology lab. Together, they will develop systems for animal exchange programs and assist during wildlife rescue missions.
Capacity building is a central tenet, with planned workshops and knowledge-sharing for students, faculty, and zoo officials. This collaboration builds on an existing strong relationship, with BVC already supporting the zoo through advanced pathological testing. Rajgir Zoo Safari is noted for its international-standard facilities and has achieved breeding success with endangered Asiatic lions.
