Summary
- Students will create art from selected recyclable waste.
- Art pieces will be displayed and sold at a new park.
- Initiative aims to reduce waste burden and boost circular economy.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has joined forces with Govt Polytechnic College in a unique initiative to convert selected recyclable waste into art. Students from the college will utilize their artistic skills to transform discarded materials into captivating art pieces.
These art installations are destined for display at the city's soon-to-be-inaugurated "waste-to-wonder" park. Residents will have the opportunity to admire, purchase, or even order custom art made from waste.
The program involves making various municipal waste components available, including plastics, electronic waste, dry and green waste, PET bottles, coconut shells, and cardboard. BMC officials highlighted that this project will significantly ease the burden on sanitary workers and foster a boost in the circular economy.
This waste-to-art initiative follows a successful waste-to-art contest held last September as part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, which encouraged public participation and showcased creative uses of waste materials.
