Summary
- Bhubaneswar installs pole-mounted dust collectors for cleaner air.
- Devices aim to meet National Clean Air Policy standards.
- Each collector can deliver 3 lakh litres of fresh air hourly.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated a significant environmental effort by installing pole-mounted dust collectors in various locations throughout the capital city. This proactive measure is specifically designed to ensure residents can breathe clean air, free from PM-10 and PM-2.5 pollutants, aligning with the objectives of the National Clean Air Policy.
These advanced dust collectors, which can be affixed to streetlight poles, are engineered to deliver an impressive 300,000 litres of purified air each hour. BMC has initially deployed 20 units in the north zone, with plans to expand the deployment to areas around the Lingaraj shrine. The system draws in polluted air, decompresses it, and then processes it within a treatment chamber.
Within the treatment chamber, an automatic timer-controlled brush system captures pollutants, depositing them into an integrated dustbin while also neutralizing odors. Subsequently, the purified air is released back into the atmosphere. These machines are energy-efficient, capable of operating on electricity, battery, or solar power, and require minimal maintenance. Complementary measures include laying concrete paver blocks along roadsides and installing green nets at construction sites to further mitigate dust pollution.
