4 Sep
Summary
- Benioffs launched a massive $300 million environmental giving initiative.
- The initiative spans reforestation, ocean conservation, and climate tech.
- Previous grants since 2016 total $68 million for climate-related causes.

Marc and Lynne Benioff, key figures behind Salesforce, have demonstrated a profound commitment to environmental causes, extending their influence far beyond the initial trillion trees initiative. Their philanthropic endeavors, initiated in January 2020 with seed funding for 1t.org, have blossomed into a comprehensive climate strategy.
By October 2021, the Benioffs and Salesforce unveiled a substantial $300 million package dedicated to ecosystem restoration and climate justice. This multi-faceted investment included a $100 million Benioff TIME Tree Fund to accelerate global reforestation, especially supporting indigenous and community-led projects.
Further bolstering their climate action, the Benioffs allocated another $100 million through TIME Ventures to support ecopreneurs and reforestation ventures. This announcement represented an expansion, as they had already provided $68 million in climate-related grants since 2016.
Salesforce also committed $100 million in grants over ten years for non-profits focused on climate justice and ecosystem restoration. Their commitment extended to employee volunteer hours and technology donations.
The Benioffs' environmental giving also encompasses ocean conservation, notably founding the Benioff Ocean Initiative in 2016 with a $10 million donation. This initiative has supported projects tackling marine plastic pollution and developing whale-safe technologies.
