On June 27, Bengaluru's development authority is orchestrating a massive greening effort, targeting the plantation of 15 lakh native plant saplings. This ambitious initiative, part of the Bengaluru Urban Ecological Restoration Mission 2026-30, anticipates the participation of over 50,000 volunteers. The project is set to cover approximately 245 acres across three identified BDA layouts.
The plantation will utilize the Miyawaki method, a technique that promotes the creation of dense, self-sustaining forests. This approach aims to establish future urban forests and 'oxygen parks,' enhancing biodiversity by focusing on native species that support local wildlife. BDA, along with NGOs and corporate partners, has committed to a three-year maintenance plan.
The total project expenditure is estimated at Rs 18 crore, with Rs 9.3 crore allocated for saplings and the remainder for logistics and execution. Significant CSR funds, amounting to Rs 70 crore, have been mobilized to support land preparation, planting, and ongoing maintenance.
