Beaver Falls Water: Bad Smell, Safe to Drink?
9 Jun
Summary
- Residents report foul taste and smell in water for over a week.
- Water samples meet safety requirements despite odor concerns.
- Beaver Falls Municipal Authority is flushing lines and changing disinfectants.

Residents of Beaver Falls, Chippewa, and Rochester have voiced concerns over their municipal water supply, reporting persistent foul odors and unpleasant tastes for over a week. The Borough of Zelienople, which also receives water from Beaver Falls, acknowledged these complaints, assuring residents that the water remains safe despite the noticeable changes.
According to Zelienople, higher than normal water temperatures in the untreated source water are causing these taste and odor issues during the treatment process. Water samples collected have consistently met safety requirements. As a corrective measure, the Beaver Falls Municipal Authority commenced routine flushing of its entire distribution system on June 8th. This process involves switching from chloramines back to chlorine as the primary disinfectant, which may temporarily cause discolored water or a noticeable chlorine odor.
