The remains were found dumped near the Muskwa River Bridge, about four kilometers south of Fort Nelson, on August 2. A local resident discovered the carcass in two pieces along the riverbank, a popular local spot. The hunting season for black bears is currently closed, with the season not reopening until August 15. Dumping animal carcasses is illegal under the B.C. Wildlife Act, regardless of the season. Authorities are asking for public assistance and have encouraged anyone with information to contact the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) Line. The Muskwa River, meaning 'bear' in Cree, flows through a significant wilderness conservation area.
