Bandra Road Dug Up Again: Residents Frustrated
1 Mar
Summary
- A section of St Andrew's Road in Bandra was recently excavated.
- Previous road repair attempts in 2018 were unfinished and shoddy.
- Current digging is for Chimbai pumping station micro-tunnelling work.

A section of St Andrew's Road in Bandra, Mumbai, has once again been excavated, causing significant distress to local residents. The carriageway's partial digging has led to traffic being restricted to a single lane, resulting in considerable inconvenience for motorists.
This recurring disruption follows a troubled history of roadworks on St Andrew's Road. In May 2018, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) initiated repairs to replace paver blocks with asphalt. However, this project was abandoned due to poor execution, leading to the contractor's termination. Subsequent plans in 2021 to concretise the road have also faced delays.
Civic officials have clarified that the current excavation is not related to routine road maintenance or the previously planned concretisation. Instead, the work is part of a crucial upgrade to the Chimbai pumping station. This involved micro-tunnelling to construct a new chamber, necessitating the recent digging on St Andrew's Road.
