Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has called for the development of a bamboo-based economy to promote sustainable growth and generate rural employment.
Varma suggested that Maharashtra adopt strategies similar to Tripura, identifying districts such as Gadchiroli as potential centers for developing a robust bamboo value chain. This initiative aims to empower local farmers and tribal communities.

Pasha Patel of the Maharashtra State Agriculture Price Commission added that bamboo is a significant climate change solution, capable of increasing green cover rapidly and absorbing substantial amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
Patel also pointed out bamboo's resilience to erratic weather, offering farmers long-term security compared to crops like cotton or soybeans. He warned that current atmospheric carbon levels, already at 430 ppm and projected to rise, pose severe risks to habitability.
