Ball Python Found Dead in Woodland After Abandonment
30 Mar
Summary
- A 4ft ball python died after being found in Mousehold Heath.
- The snake likely died from injuries or exposure to cold weather.
- A wildlife expert called the abandonment 'cruel, heartless, and despicable'.

A ball python, approximately 4ft in length, was found deceased in the Mousehold Heath woodland on Saturday. Experts believe the snake, native to west and central Africa, was abandoned and struggled to survive the cold conditions. Kevin Murphy from Norfolk Wildlife Rescue discovered the non-venomous constrictor and described the act of abandoning it as 'unbelievably selfish, cruel, heartless and despicable'.
Murphy indicated that the snake received veterinary treatment but its condition was critical. He suspected abandonment over escape due to the distance from nearby homes. The python's death is attributed to its injuries, which could stem from an attack in the woods or an incident while in care. As a cold-blooded animal, the ball python relies on external heat, making the woodland environment exceptionally challenging, especially during cold nights.
