Goo-Covered Eagle Rescued and Released
2 Oct
Summary
- Bald eagle found stuck in landfill goo
- Rescuers cleaned the bird with four washes
- Eagle released back into wild Sept. 18

On August 31, a bald eagle was discovered in distress at a Brantford landfill, its feathers completely matted with an unknown, sticky substance. The bird was found deep within the muddy landfill, making access difficult for rescuers. Despite being unable to fly, the eagle was active, running around the site.
Rescuers carefully captured the bird and transported it to a wildlife rehabilitation center for assessment and care. It required four thorough washes to remove the "goo" that had adhered to its feathers down to the skin. The rehabilitation was successful, and the bald eagle was released back into the wild on September 18.
