Following the drowning of two schoolboys in 1999, poet Sivan Muppathadom wrote "Ente Makkale" to warn against the dangers. A warning pillar was erected in 2000, later evolving into the "Amma" sculpture by Balachandran Muppathadom, unveiled in March 2002. Despite monsoon damage, the community repeatedly restored the monument.
