Andhra Pradesh has made substantial progress in environmental conservation, adding 2,234.15 acres of greenbelt within its industrial zones over the past three months. This initiative has increased the total green cover across 2,913 industrial units to 27,384.34 acres, highlighting a focused effort to align industrial expansion with ecological sustainability.
The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) is actively promoting plantation drives and greenery development within industrial estates. This push, guided by the deputy chief minister, aims to mitigate pollution and preserve the environment while fostering economic growth. APPCB chairperson P Krishnaiah emphasized that industries must prioritize environmental protection alongside development.
Industries are encouraged to achieve a 33% green cover on their premises, adhering to guidelines from the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change. This involves not only planting trees but also ensuring their maintenance and selecting species suitable for the local climate. The APPCB remains committed to safeguarding the environment for future generations without hindering industrial progress.
