Amravati Seeks Advanced Wildlife Rescue Hub
26 Jun
Summary
- Groups demand modern rescue center for 25 large carnivores and 100 herbivores.
- Rising urbanization leads to increased wildlife rescue needs in Amravati.
- Existing facility in Paratwada lacks capacity to meet growing demands.

Various environmental and wildlife organizations have formally requested the establishment of an advanced wildlife rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation centre in Amravati. The memorandum was submitted to the deputy conservator of forests of the Amravati Territorial Forest Division.
The proposed centre aims to significantly enhance wildlife survival rates and improve the management of human-wildlife conflicts. It is envisioned to include specialized facilities for a substantial number of large carnivores and herbivores, alongside dedicated areas for birds and reptiles. A fully equipped hospital, intensive care unit, and quarantine facilities are also part of the proposal.
Incidents requiring wildlife rescue and treatment have reportedly increased due to ongoing urbanization, leading to more frequent accidents on roads and railway tracks, electrocutions, and animals falling into various hazards. The organizations highlighted that the current facility in Paratwada is inadequate for the rising demand.
Amravati's strategic location, surrounded by significant forest areas including Melghat Tiger Reserve and other sanctuaries, makes it a critical administrative hub for wildlife conservation efforts in the Vidarbha region.
