Amazon Defender Raoni in ICU

Indigenous leader Raoni Metuktire, a prominent defender of the Amazon rainforest, is currently in intensive care. His health has reportedly deteriorated, leading to his hospitalization in Sinop, Brazil. Doctors have stated his condition is serious, citing kidney issues and signs of a severe infection.

Raoni, who is 94 years old, has dedicated decades to advocating for the Amazon and its Indigenous peoples worldwide. He previously faced health challenges, including chronic bronchopulmonary disease and heart problems, and had been hospitalized in May. Despite his advanced age, he remained active in recent months, recently attending a large Indigenous gathering in Brasilia.
