Aluva municipality's innovative waste management system, launched nearly three months ago, is showing promising results. The public-private partnership model, centered around the Robobin facility, is gaining traction and encouraging further expansion. This initiative allows households to process their organic waste, with 1,050 households already subscribed.
The Robobin facility converts household waste into compost through an automated process. Residents can use the booth for ₹7 per kg, with the municipality receiving ₹2 and the private operator ₹5. Since its launch on October 16, 2025, the facility has generated ₹39,000 and targets ₹4 lakh in revenue over the next three months.
This system addresses gaps in existing waste management, especially for those unable to manage organic waste at home. The municipality plans to install additional booths and aims to foster a dignified approach to waste handling. Non-biodegradable waste is collected by the Haritha Karma Sena.
