The Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project is celebrating five years of dedicated work to combat litter and pollution along the Dorset coast. This volunteer group has been instrumental in cleaning the coastline between Osmington and Chickerell, revealing a startling array of debris.
Recent astonishing discoveries include a 50-year-old medicine bottle from Colombia, found on Chesil Beach. This plastic item, which reads "venta bajo formula medico" (sale by prescription only) and features an address from Cali, Colombia, serves as a stark reminder of plastic's enduring presence.
Alongside the Colombian bottle, a plaster tin lid dating back to the World War Two era was also collected. Co-founder Dave Taylor expressed shock at the longevity of plastic items, emphasizing the significant environmental impact of persistent waste on coastal areas.
