School's New Cafe Empowers Students with Real-World Skills

Windber Area High School has successfully launched "Brewed Awakening," a new coffee shop operated entirely by its Life Skills students. This innovative venture, located in the school's former teachers' lounge, offers a significant upgrade from the students' previous coffee cart operation. Students are gaining practical experience in preparing beverages, managing orders, and interacting with customers, fostering essential social and vocational skills.

The primary goal of Brewed Awakening is to provide students with invaluable customer service experience, cash-handling abilities, and social interaction practice. This prepares them for future employment and independent living. The project has been a passion project, involving students, teachers, and school administration in its development, embodying the school's inclusive culture.

With an expanded menu including coffee, tea, and sodas, the shop serves students and visitors during school hours.
