Wetherby High School Prepares for Comprehensive Renovation and Expansion

According to a design report published last month, Wetherby High School is in urgent need of modernization. The report, commissioned by the Department for Education (DfE), highlighted several issues with the existing school infrastructure, including a lack of welcoming atmosphere at the main entrance and poor ventilation leading to frequent overheating.

To address these concerns, the DfE has conducted a feasibility study and public consultation, in collaboration with Sport England, to develop a comprehensive plan for the school's redevelopment. The proposed solution is a three-story, U-shaped school building that will be constructed on the existing playing fields near the current site.

The new facility will feature improved parking, including designated disabled spaces and electric vehicle charging points. Additionally, the plans call for an extension of the multi-use games area to enhance the school's sports and recreational offerings.

Pre-application talks with the local council have already taken place, and the full planning application is expected to be lodged soon. The rebuild project will be carried out by BAM Construction, a leading construction firm. The report states that the proposal will result in a more sustainable building for Wetherby High School without any unacceptable impacts.
