Sanjay Dahariya, aged 37, has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 946th rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. This accomplishment comes after a protracted struggle with parotid cancer, first diagnosed in 2011. Dahariya faced numerous medical challenges, including extensive treatment from 2011 to 2018 at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, involving multiple surgeries and radiation therapy.
Despite these severe health setbacks and the financial strain of his treatment, which he managed by continuing to work in the banking sector, Dahariya remained committed to his aspiration of joining the civil services. In 2019, he resigned from his bank manager position to dedicate himself fully to his mental recovery and UPSC preparation.
His UPSC journey involved two attempts; he appeared for the first time in 2023 but did not succeed. In his second attempt in 2025, he achieved his goal. Dahariya expressed hope that his SC category and medical condition might lead to an IAS posting, though he anticipates at least an Indian Revenue Service position. His resolve was strengthened by the kindness of people he met during his treatment, who encouraged him to help others if he succeeded.
