Starting from the 2026-27 academic session, Uttar Pradesh's council-run primary schools will implement revised NCERT Class IV textbooks. Over 1 lakh schools will see changes in mathematics, Hindi, environmental studies, and art books, customized to align with the state's social, cultural, and educational landscape.
The mathematics textbook, 'Ganit Mela', now prominently features the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya in a chapter previously illustrating a Jain temple. References and names from southern India have been replaced with local equivalents, such as Ganesh replacing Gudappa and aonla trees substituting coconut trees.
Furthermore, the Hindi textbook 'Veena' has seen lesson replacements, and the art book 'Bansuri' now includes details on Uttar Pradesh's Chauk Purna tradition and local crafts. Environmental studies textbook 'Hamara Adbhut Sansar' introduces topics like local Uttar Pradesh foods, state festivals, and regional paper manufacturing hubs.
