UP Simplifies RTE Admissions: Aadhaar Hurdles Gone!

The Uttar Pradesh government has streamlined the admission process for underprivileged children through the Right to Education (RTE) Act, removing previous hurdles. A key simplification involves the Aadhaar card requirement; previously, Aadhaar cards for both parents and the child were mandatory. Now, only one parent's Aadhaar card is needed for the online application, easing the process for disadvantaged families. The government aims to facilitate 'ease of living' for these families, aligning with the spirit of the RTE Act.
The state has established district-wise admission targets, which will be determined based on up to 25% of the total capacity of the lowest entry class in all unaided private schools. Document verification will occur at the Block Education Officer and Basic Shiksha Adhikari levels. Following verification, an online lottery system will be used to allocate schools to eligible applicants, with the DM/CDO approving the final list.
The age criteria for admission have also been clarified. Children aged 3 to 4 years will be admitted to nursery, 4 to 5 years to Lower Kindergarten (LKG), 5 to 6 years to Upper Kindergarten (UKG), and 6 to 7 years to Class 1. This comprehensive reform aims to ensure greater access to private education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
