Uttar Pradesh is actively promoting cultural engagement within its higher education institutions. The state has established and is supporting Cultural Clubs in 261 colleges, aiming to nurture students as 'Yuva Cultural Ambassadors'. This initiative represents a significant investment, with around Rs 1.16 crore disbursed to government, aided, and postgraduate institutions in less than three years to embed culture into campus life.
The program is implemented in phases, demonstrating a scalable and monitored approach. During the 2023-24 academic year, 68 colleges received initial funding of Rs 50,000 each. This support expanded in 2024-25, with 122 colleges receiving the first installment and an additional 71 colleges getting a second installment of Rs 30,000 to ensure continuous activity.
These clubs facilitate a broad spectrum of cultural expressions, including debates, poetry, music, dance, theater, and visual arts. The objective extends beyond artistic participation to deepening students' understanding of traditions, social values, and customs. The initiative also includes outreach activities like heritage walks and festival celebrations, connecting students with local heritage and fostering pride and awareness.
