UEA Dental School Appeals for Alumni Donations
15 Oct
Summary
- UEA seeks £10 monthly donations from former students.
- New dental school opens next year with 25 student places.
- Funding will equip clinical spaces and provide specialist instruments.
The University of East Anglia (UEA) has initiated a fundraising campaign, reaching out to its alumni for financial contributions to support its new dental school. In an email sent to former students, the head of the Faculty of Medicine requested donations of £10 per month. The funds are intended to equip the clinical learning spaces, provide specialist instruments, and acquire state-of-the-art training equipment for the students.
The university has assured that there is no funding crisis and the dental school is on track to open next year. However, UEA acknowledges that its business model faces challenges due to being allocated only 25 student places. These places are part of 50 new dental positions created by the government, shared equally between UEA and the University of Portsmouth. The appeal emphasizes that alumni contributions will ensure that the inaugural cohort of UEA dentistry students receives the necessary facilities and equipment from the outset of their studies, enabling them to succeed in their training.
