Kerala's Medical Pioneer Celebrates Platinum Jubilee

Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College, the state's inaugural medical institution, proudly marked its 75th anniversary on Thursday, November 27. Since its founding in 1951, it has evolved into a premier center for medical education and patient care, with its alumni contributing to healthcare globally. The college continues to expand its services and facilities.

The institution remains a vital healthcare hub, attending to approximately 8,000 outpatients and admitting around 500 inpatients each day. It offers MBBS programs for 250 students annually, alongside 24 specialty and 16 super-specialty departments, catering to a wide range of medical needs.

Currently, the medical college is undergoing a significant transformation with the second phase of a ₹717.29-crore master plan in progress. Health Minister Veena George highlighted the recent establishment of new departments, including critical care, genetics, and fetal medicine, further enhancing the institution's advanced medical capabilities.
