A 14-year-old student attending a government residential school for SC/ST students was found deceased on Saturday night. The Class VIII student was discovered hanging from a tree about 1 kilometer away from the school in Nabarangpur district.
Authorities were alerted when the student was found missing from the dining hall during dinner. A search operation led to the discovery. Preliminary investigations suggest the student may have climbed over the hostel boundary wall to leave the campus.
An unnatural death case has been registered, and police are recording statements from the family, school staff, and fellow students. The district administration has also ordered a departmental inquiry to ascertain if there were any lapses or negligence by the school or hostel authorities.
