Construction is actively progressing on phase two of the Sumner High School expansion, following extensive planning and permitting. This phase, part of a larger district-wide upgrade initiative funded by a 2024 bond measure, is budgeted at $114 million and is anticipated for completion by Fall 2028. The project involves constructing a new 99,000 square foot building, designated as the west building, which will feature additional classrooms and Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces. Recently, materials delivery and preparation for drilling structural piles have been underway. Phase one of the expansion, completed in 2023 with funding from a 2016 bond, previously added 18 classrooms, a library, and a common area. The 2024 bond measure also allocates funds for a future phase three, estimated for completion by Fall 2032, which will include a new pool, gymnasium, performing arts center, and athletic fields. The 2024 bond is projected to cost the average homeowner approximately $396 annually.
