Students from St. Matthew's Public School have demonstrated a powerful commitment to sustainability through a large-scale book recycling drive. This initiative, conducted in partnership with ITC-AGS Well-Being Out of Waste (WOW), saw children collect thousands of kilograms of used books and paper from their communities.
The program, an inter-school recycling championship, emphasized the critical role schools play in fostering environmental awareness and action. Principal Rayappa Reddy highlighted that such activities instill lifelong sustainable habits in students, underscoring the collective responsibility to protect the environment.
WOW representatives shared compelling statistics on the benefits of recycling paper, noting that one metric tonne can save 17 to 20 trees, approximately 26,000 liters of water, and nearly 4,000 units of electricity. These efforts significantly reduce landfill burden.
Further recognizing student achievements, awards were presented to top participants. Notably, G. Lochan Abhishikth and G. Devanshi Prardhana submitted an impressive 3,600 kilograms of old books, exemplifying the impactful contributions students can make towards a greener future.
