State Cracks Down on Unapproved Health Courses
10 Jul
Summary
- New SOP targets unauthorized health institutions and unapproved courses.
- Institutions mislead students, causing financial loss and career uncertainty.
- Joint Director of Health Services to lead district-level enforcement actions.

The State government has implemented a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to combat unauthorized health sector institutions and unapproved courses. This directive follows numerous complaints about institutions operating without necessary government approvals, university affiliations, or statutory council recognition.
Such entities frequently misdirect students into costly programs, resulting in financial hardship and career uncertainty. The SOP mandates district-level implementation, spearheaded by the Joint Director of Health Services (JDHS). Annual lists of approved institutions and courses will be provided by key educational and health directorates to the JDHS.
Upon receiving a complaint, the JDHS will form inspection teams to verify institutional authorization, course approvals, student admissions, fee collection, and facilities. A factual report will be submitted to the District Collector, who can then authorize legal action, including filing police complaints under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for offenses like cheating and misrepresentation.
The Collector is empowered to halt further admissions and, if legally warranted, order the closure of non-compliant institutions. Directorates must publish updated approved lists online, while institutions are required to display their statutory approvals prominently on-site and online.
