General Education Principal Secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph, who announced the SSLC results on Friday, is a former SSLC rank-holder. She secured the third rank in 1986 with 580 marks, sharing the spot with a male student. Joseph recalled the intense competition and exam pressure during her time, noting the pass percentage was significantly lower then at 46.73%.
Reflecting on the change from ranks to grades, Ms. Joseph explained that studies indicated extreme pressure from rank competition. She believes grading helps end student comparison and labeling. After excelling in school, she pursued MBBS and was preparing for her MD when she took the Civil Services exam.
Ms. Joseph expressed her satisfaction in delivering the SSLC results, an unexpected but welcome task. She urged students to aim high and commit to their studies to capitalize on upcoming opportunities.
