Canadian Study Permits Become Harder to Secure for Indian Students

As of November 2025, securing a Canadian study permit has become increasingly challenging for Indian students. In 2024, nearly 290,000 study permit applications were refused, and the national approval rate dropped to 48%, compared to around 60% in previous years.

The most common reason for refusal, cited in more than three-quarters of cases, was that immigration officers were not convinced applicants would return home after completing their studies. Additionally, financial readiness and the authenticity of documents were among the top concerns, with three of the top five refusal reasons last year related to finances.

Experts emphasize the importance of well-prepared, transparent, and authentic applications to improve the chances of success. Applicants must clearly outline their academic and career goals in India, demonstrate steady income and adequate financial resources, and ensure that all required documents are complete and consistent.
