At Scranton Preparatory School, students are actively shaping the future by developing unique business plans through the Entrepreneurs For Good program. This initiative, now in its fifth year, cultivates young entrepreneurs while instilling Jesuit values of community, service, and uniqueness.
Participants spent two weeks conceptualizing and pitching socially impactful organizations. Ideas presented included a medical expert connection service, an AI platform for small businesses, and an app to help teens reduce smartphone usage. The program also emphasized business ethics and practical decision-making through mock scenarios.
Robert Sprung, a Scranton Prep alumnus, founded the program to nurture entrepreneurship early. He believes young people bring a vital passion to business, unhindered by pre-existing frameworks. Sprung highlighted that the core of entrepreneurship lies in identifying and addressing genuine societal needs, a principle central to the students' projects.
Students reported significant growth in their business knowledge, public speaking, and personal confidence. Avah Arnold noted learning far more than expected, while Carson Jones gained insight into business operations. Grace Hamill developed presentation and budgeting skills. The program aims to equip students with self-sufficiency, independent thought, and practical problem-solving abilities applicable beyond starting a business.
