Summary
- Diwali holidays announced in Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, and Jammu
- Heavy rain disrupts schools in Darjeeling and Kalimpong
- Karnataka schools closed for caste-based socio-educational survey

As the country prepares to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, schools across India are announcing their holiday schedules. In Rajasthan, the Diwali vacation will run from October 13 to October 24, giving students and teachers a total of 12 days off. Similarly, schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed from October 20 to October 23, with an additional Sunday holiday on October 19, resulting in a five-day vacation.
In Bihar, Diwali holidays will start on October 18 and continue for several days. After Diwali, schools will also be closed for the Chhath Puja celebrations. Meanwhile, in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities are monitoring the situation as some areas may still face irregular rainfall, and any worsening of the weather could lead to further school closures.
However, the news is not all positive, as heavy rainfall and landslides in the Darjeeling hills have forced the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration to announce school closures as a precaution. Schools in Darjeeling and Kalimpong are expected to reopen on October 13, but parents are advised to stay alert for any updates.
Additionally, schools in Karnataka have been unexpectedly closed from October 8 to October 18 due to a Caste-Based Socio-Educational Survey being conducted across the state. The survey, which began on September 22, has been extended by 10 days, during which no academic activities will take place in schools.
