Pupils from Altham St James' Primary School in Accrington have triumphed in a competition celebrating the life of suffragette pioneer Lydia Becker. Becker, who grew up in the town, was honored by the schoolchildren for her significant contributions to the women's suffrage movement.
The young learners showcased their dedication through a presentation that featured them dressed in period costumes, alongside original artwork depicting Becker's botanical interests and her childhood home, Moorside House. They also created informative placards to highlight Becker's legacy.
Their efforts captivated the judges, including Kelly-Ann Groves, who resides in Becker's former home. The presentation was delivered to Hyndburn Council officials, earning the Altham St James students a prize that includes a visit to the Houses of Parliament and the Millicent Fawcett statue in London.
