11 Dec
Summary
- Children reported worms in rice and old vegetables.
- Students bathe in cold water due to lack of hot water system.
- School officials negligent; district officer missed monthly visits.

A surprise inspection by MLC Suja Kushalappa revealed significant neglect at the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Minority Residential School in Kyate village. The school, serving 230 children, was found to have inadequate security, with half-cooked food and reports of worms in rice and semolina.
Students complained about the poor quality of food, including old vegetables, and the lack of a hot water system, forcing them to bathe in cold water. They also reported the death of a girl from high fever several months ago, highlighting the critical conditions.
MLC Kushalappa criticized the negligent attitude of the warden and district officer, pointing out broken facilities and a severe mosquito infestation. He noted that the district officer had failed to conduct mandatory monthly inspections for nearly three months, demanding swift suspension and action against the officials.
