Santa Fe College is set to receive $2.5 million in state funding designated for significant facility upgrades at its northwest campus. This appropriation will primarily benefit the college's visual arts program, which serves around 2,500 students.
The funds are allocated for phase two of renovations to the M building, a 50-year-old structure. Plans include the development of a new fabrication lab, a 3D studio, and a wood shop. The project also encompasses upgrades to restrooms, classrooms, a gallery, existing studio and lab spaces, and improvements to outdoor areas.
This initiative builds upon phase one, which received $1.27 million in state funding for the relocation of the print shop. Construction for phase one is anticipated to commence this fall and conclude by summer 2027. The renovations are expected to enhance safety, student recruitment, and retention by offering professional-quality learning environments.
College President Paul Broadie II expressed gratitude to Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state Legislature for their support. State Rep. Chad Johnson and State Sen. Stan McClain were instrumental in sponsoring the appropriation, highlighting their advocacy for the institution.
