Pune Civic Body Invests Rs 4 Crore to Secure Municipal Schools with CCTV

In October 2025, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to commence the second phase of its CCTV installation project at municipal schools, having secured Rs 4 crore in funding for the initiative last week. This follows the first phase, where CCTV cameras were installed in 91 civic schools.
The CCTV project is part of PMC's broader "model school scheme" launched in 2023-24, a joint effort between the corporation's education and estate departments to bring uniformity and modernization to municipal schools across the city. Under this scheme, 15 schools have already been redesigned with a consistent color scheme, standardized flooring, improved toilet facilities, and creative Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) paintings. The next batch of 15 schools is currently undergoing similar upgrades.
The decision to accelerate CCTV installation was also influenced by a sexual assault case at a school in Badlapur in 2024. The civic administration has prioritized the schools with a greater need for CCTV surveillance, with the remaining institutions to be added in phases. In total, PMC runs around 300 schools, catering to nearly one lakh students from financially weaker sections of society.
