President Murmu to Unveil Statue of Freedom Fighter Tilka Manjhi in Bhagalpur

In the coming days, the city of Bhagalpur is preparing for the highly anticipated visit of President Droupadi Murmu on August 20, 2025. The primary purpose of the President's visit is to unveil the statue of Tilka Manjhi, a revered freedom fighter and tribal leader from the Santhal community, also known as Jabra Paharia.

The statue will be inaugurated on the campus of Tilkamanjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU). As part of the event, President Murmu will also release a commemorative souvenir celebrating Tilka Manjhi's life and legacy, highlighting his courageous resistance against British colonial rule.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the TMBU's indoor stadium on August 20. According to the tentative itinerary, the President is expected to arrive in Bhagalpur on the same day and stay overnight. Several official engagements are being coordinated by the district administration in connection with her visit, and she is likely to return to New Delhi on August 21.

The local authorities, including the Bhagalpur District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and other officials, have been actively involved in ensuring that all necessary preparations are in place for the President's visit. They have been inspecting the venue, directing the TMBU officials to complete the works related to the Manjhi statue by August 15, and ensuring proper security arrangements and seating arrangements for the guests and invitees.
